High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance (HEPA) is a filtration standard set by the US Atomic Energy Commission.
The US Environmental Protection Agency warns: “Some air cleaning technologies may emit potentially harmful byproducts during operation” (ozone, carbon monoxide, & formaldehyde). ESPs, ionizers, uncoated UVGI lamps, and products advertising the use of ‘plasma’, ‘ions’ and similar methods can generate high amounts of ozone, a well known lung irritant.
